Can You Install Hardwood Floors in a Basement?
Solid hardwood planks are not the best choice for a basement in Edgewater, because they are susceptible to warping when damp, and Edgewater is on the Bay, so basements there often have moisture issues. But if you love the look of natural hardwood, luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is an excellent option. This flooring material is made out of PVC but mimics the appearance of real wood. Because of its unique construction, LVT wears well in humid environments and won’t get damaged easily. Other popular flooring choices for basements include ceramic tile or laminate.
EDGEWATER TILE INSTALLATION
You probably already have tile in your home, whether it’s on your floors, walls, or both. Tile has many attractive qualities: It's durable, long-lasting, and comes in a vast array of colors, shapes, sizes, patterns, textures, and materials. That means installing new tiles is the perfect way to put your own personality and sense of style into your home. Or, if you’re thinking of selling in the near future, choose a classic, neutral look that will increase your property value.
Choosing the right tile material from among the many options can feel overwhelming at first, but there are a few key factors that will help narrow it down. Consider the tile’s location in your home, and what your top priorities are. For example, glass tile is too delicate for the floor, but it adds depth and interest when used in a kitchen backsplash.
Another consideration is how much maintenance you’re willing to do. A natural stone tile such as slate is absolutely beautiful and can serve as a conversation piece, but it does need to be carefully maintained and sealed regularly to upkeep its appearance. Ceramic or porcelain tile might not be quite as eye-catching, but they come in a huge variety of styles, are extremely durable, and are virtually maintenance-free. Of course, if you need help selecting the right type of tile, our experienced handyman team would be happy to offer expert advice. We know all about tile installation and tile repair.
Our Team Can Install a Range of Tiles:
- Natural stones such as slate, marble, & travertine
- Porcelain & ceramic
- Quarry
- Mosaic
- Glass
What's the Difference Between Caulk and Grout?
Basically, grout is a cement-like mixture that bonds tile to the backer board and fills the gaps between tiles, while the caulk is a semi-flexible, waterproof polymer that is used to seal edges where tile meets another surface such as drywall (among many other purposes). Caulk is also sometimes used in corners where two tiled surfaces meet. All buildings shift and settle over time, and the more flexible caulk provides "wiggle room" in 90-degree joints to accommodate settling.
