Painting Tips: Acceptable Painting Conditions

Question: I've been trying to paint some window trim around my house, but with all the rain we've been getting and the hot weather in between, I'm not sure if it's OK to do now. How dry and how cool does it have to be before I can paint outside?

Paint Brush in Paint

Answer: Basically, you need dry weather at least 24 hours before and after painting. Actually inspect the surface to be sure it is dry; don't just go by the weather conditions. Windows on the shady side of your house may still be damp when others are dry.

As far as the temperature goes, ideal conditions are between 50 and 90 degrees. As with all paint jobs, make sure the surface is clean, dry and dull before beginning.
