Q: We are having a new home built and one of the options is gutters. Do you recommend them?
A: I do recommend gutters. Gutters are a managed way of getting water down to the ground and away from the home. A lot of water damage repairs that we do would be far less severe if the home had gutters.
Your home gets wet when it rains. Consider all the water that would normally spill off the roof and run down over your siding, trim, doors, windows, deck and other surfaces. Now, consider how much less water is running over everything if it flows into gutters, down and away from the home.
You will have far fewer water issues if your home has gutters. This includes less water damaged wood, less water intrusion in cracks, and less algae on siding and horizontal surfaces.
