Q: We want to replace our front door. We want something with a leaded-glass insert that will look nice, and let in more light. While browsing online it’s asking if our door is left-hand or right-hand swing. How can we tell?

A: Everybody has a “technique” they use for this. Something a mentor taught them long ago. Here is my way. Open the door and stand on the threshold, which is the strip, usually metal, that the bottom of the door ‘seals’ against to keep weather and insects out. Turn so that your back is toward the hinges that the door pivots on to open.

If the open door is over your left shoulder, it is a left-hand swing door. If over your right shoulder, it’s right-hand swing. Once you have the door in your possession, Mr. Handyman would be happy to install it if you need help.
