Do you need an electrician to put in an oven?

You might need an electrician to install an oven, especially if you're dealing with electrical work that goes beyond a simple plug-in. For electric ovens, if your home already has the proper wiring and a compatible outlet (typically a 240-volt outlet for most electric ovens), you might be able to install it yourself.

However, if the wiring or circuit breakers need to be upgraded, or if you're installing an oven where there wasn't one before, you’ll definitely need an electrician to ensure everything is up to code and safe. For gas ovens, while you’ll need a gas technician for the gas hookup, an electrician may still be needed if there are electrical components involved, like an electric ignition system.
